Hello! My name is Lauren, and I am currently a junior in college. While my first two years of college weren’t exactly the healthiest, I have recently taken a turn for the better. It’s hard to stay healthy and fit in college, between the busy schedules, late night cram sessions, campus food, and (for some, constant) partying. This blog started out as an assignment for the class and instead of stopping all together when the class was over, I have just made some changes and plan to continue my blogging.
I’m in the beginnings of my toughest semester so far in college, and hopefully my busy and stressful schedule won’t interfere with the blog. I’m going to focus on my effort to maintain a healthy lifestyle with my eating, exercising, and recreational habits.
I am also currently training for the Shamrock Shuffle 8K, which will be in March. I’ve been a runner on and off for most of my life. I ran from 5th grade throughout the rest of my middle school and high school life for my schools. I was always a sprinter and now am trying to transition into more distance running (because lets face it, my body is not what it once was).
In June of 2008 I was in a serious car accident that left me with multiple fractures in my pelvis, as well as a separated shoulder. The accident was a huge setback in my life, but also a great eye opener. While much of the pain and many difficulties still linger, I have learned to appreciate my body for what it allows me to accomplish and appreciate every mile it takes me.
Having a history or sprinting, it is hard to convince myself to take my training slow, but I’m working on it. I hope to complete the 8K with a decent time and to run many more races in the future. Ideally, I’d like to complete a half marathon this summer and a short triathalon as well. All in all, I’m waiting to see where I end up, but I hope wherever that is I will be running.
